Promoting the role of museums and archives in supporting reminiscence activities for people with dementia.

BooM project partnership is glad to launch the new project website: www.boxofourmemories.eu

Through the web platform we will share all the steps and outputs of the 30 months pan-European Erasmus+ project, funded by the Polish national agency, aiming at enhancing the availability of reminiscence-based, digital, informal adult education interventions for seniors.

The project will focus on reminiscence therapy, which is the use of life histo- ries – written, oral, or both – to improve psychological well-being, especially with older persons with dementia. BooM will design digital reminiscence therapy interventions for older people, and it will do that by working closely with museums and archives as particularly suitable environments where implementing such interventions. We will also expect an impact in raising the awareness on making cities accessible to people with dementia, as well as in strengthening the family caregivers' and educators' skills on how to treat dementia.

According to the World Health Organization, around 50 million people have dementia worldwide, and there are nearly 10 million new cases every year. It is one of the major causes of disability and dependency among older pe- ople, and it has a physical, psychological, social, and economic impact, not only on people with dementia, but also on their carers, families and society at large.
